“Star Trek XI Is A Rumor Wreck”
Josh Tyler over at CinemaBlend posted a breakdown of the rumors that have been floating around, specifically the ones related to William Shatner and Matt Damon, and how those have now pretty much been debunked.
I’m sorry, but I have been TRYING to tell the Trek fans to pipe down and not believe the rumors that were floating around. Did they listen to me? No. There is a VERY small handful of people who I would consider to be “in the know” when it comes to the 11th Star Trek movie, and NONE of them are talking anytime soon. Why? BECAUSE IT’S TOO SOON.
I get that the Trek fans are chomping at the bit to hear something…ANYTHING…about the new movie. I understand that. What I have a problem with is the various websites playing on that rabid need for knowledge by posting information that has NO proof to back it up, thus perpetuating the rumors and only agitating the fans more. Stop the madness. Please.

Heh heh…telling Trekkies to calm down in the face of crazy rumors…riiiight.
When we were down in Orlando, Brer Matt and I were chatting briefly that Bad Robot is in the “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” with Trek. This fan base is probably one of the worst you can have because they all have their opinions on the franchise and they are very “elitist.” Didn’t you tell me that BR already got the email from a “concerned fan” explaining how JJ should handle Trek and volunteering to help him “do it right.” It doesn’t help that the Trekkies’ God (Shatner) is playing with their minds with all the rumors as well.
I did get a huge kick out of the various posts on the Trek XI site where they have been going through Alias episodes with the intent on getting some sort of a clue as to how JJ will approach Trek.

So I’m looking through technorati for various reasons related to the Mark Foley scandal, and, *somehow*, I find this post, check the link, and then, because I’m a creature of habit, I read the comments.
Hey! That was ME on TrekMovie.com who did the Alias article! And I blew about seventy-odd hours of my life doing it. More if you include the DVD audio commentaries. And, yes, it is amusing that I went to those lengths. (And, yes, I *am* assuming that you’re referring to the TMR article.)
Seriously, though, nice link. A little weak on the *breadth* of its rumor debunking, but generally complete. Might I recommend the Star Trek XI article on Wikipedia for the destruction of other baseless rumors? The latest one to gain steam, hitting Slice of SciFi (which is basically a subsidary of the fanatic ENTERPRISE fan group TrekUnited.com) just yesterday, is a rehash of the old Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Dr. Boyce rumor from April. As always, Trekkies are trying to have strong opinions about things they can’t possibly have opinions about it, and it could well be their undoing… again.
And now, back to technorati. Nice site. Glad I found it. Wish I knew *how* I found it in a Mark Foley search. Meh.

I am a big Damon fan. I loved the Bourne movies and I just heard that there will be a third and finally movie. Anybody know when that will come out?
