FRINGE: Pinkner will be showrunner

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

The word is that Jeff Pinkner has been brought in to be the showrunner for FRINGE. I would say this shocks me, but of course it doesn’t. JJ’s nepotism is notorious, so bringing in Pinkner - who has previously worked on ALIAS and LOST - makes perfect sense.

I would hazard a guess that we will recognize many more names as the FRINGE staff fills out - and that is fine by me.

FRINGE: Writing Staff Filling Out

Friday, March 7th, 2008

There are few examples of perfection in this world. Fewer still examples of it within the realm of a television series. But for me personally, and for the group of you who know what “DHAF” means, the announcement that I’m about to make will be the closest thing to perfection we’ve seen in quite some time. In fact, I haven’t gotten this kind of a tingly “OMG THIS IS PERFECT” sensation since I first heard about some show called LOST ;)

There is no official announcement for me to link to, but I got it straight from the source and y’all will just have to trust me. Here goes (in H-font, because I’m that damn excited):

J.R. Orci (Alias, Journeyman) has joined the FRINGE writing staff!!!

Rick is a dear friend of mine and is wicked mad talented. From what I know about FRINGE, he is PERFECT for this show - and the show needs someone like him on it. Just trust me on that.

Congrats, Rick. You’ll never get rid of me now ;)

Cloverfield’s Slusho: Fave drink of HEROES?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

I giggled myself silly over this article over at /Film.com, because it proves that viral marketing campaigns CAN be fun when the people behind them are …well, Evil Puppet Masters ;)

It seems that the director of last Monday’s HEROES episode “Cautionary Tales” was Greg Yaitanes, and HEROES EP Greg Beeman revealed a series of photos of HEROES actors holding SLUSHO cups over at his blog that he says were set up by Yaitanes. Now, in the realm of “Six Degrees of JJ Abrams,” Yaitanes directed one of my favorite episodes of ALIAS, called “Another Mister Sloane” (Joel Grey FTW!!), plus two important episodes of LOST - “Solitary” and “Special.” So yeah, he’s connected to the BR boys in some fashion - but why these SLUSHO pics with the HEROES cast? The only explanation is a vague one (you’re shocked, I can tell):

Now, the next group of photos falls into the “don’t ask/don’t tell” category. I credit Greg Yaitanes for staging all these pix, under the supervision of Joe Pokaski. Their cultural significance will become clear in the coming months, so… pay attention!

For my fellow ALIAS fans, I would have to say that the following two pics were my faves:

And for those who watched Monday’s episode of HEROES, that cup that Elle (Kristen Bell) was drinking out of in her car while she waited with Mohinder at the beach should look VERY familiar ;)

Now, what the hell does this have to do with Cloverfield? No idea - but it’s fun, isn’t it? :D

Orci Brothers on Strike

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

One more pic to share from the front lines of the WGA Strike.

That is former Alias scribe and current Journeyman writer, J.R. Orci, on the left, and his big brother, Roberto Orci, on the right. Bob and his writing partner, Alex Kurtzman, have written for Alias, as well as Mission: Impossible III and the currently filming 11th Star Trek movie.

Pic used by permission of J.R. Orci.

Sark a Hero?

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Word on the street is that the fabulous David Anders is in talks to join the cast of HEROES next season. *crosses fingers*

As much as I would LOVE for the hotness behind Sark to adorn my television screen again, it is still weird to hear him talk without the English accent. *sigh*

The other Orci’s new gig

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Former Alias writer (and younger brother of Roberto Orci), J.R. “Rick” Orci, will be writing for the new NBC drama Journeyman. It will be airing this Fall after Heroes at 10 p.m. (EST).

Don’t know much about the show (yet), except what is on the NBC site — which does have some vid clips and interviews with the actors. I’ll post more as it becomes available.

Snippets of a convo with Bryan Burk

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

You think last night’s episode knocked your socks off? I believe the phrase “tip of the iceberg” may apply. I exchanged some e-mails with the fantastic Bryan Burk last night, and I thought I’d share the last bit with y’all:

Burky says…

2 to go — including, in my opinion, our BEST season finale!

hijinx responds…

“BEST season finale”???? You’re trying to kill me, aren’t you? I have pretty high standards when it comes to season finales — and up until this point, NOTHING has come close to beating the Alias Season 2 finale. You think it’s THAT good?

Burky responds…

BETTER than “Alias” Season 2 finale

Batten down the hatches (so to speak), my friends. Brain-proof the walls of your living rooms. Bryan doesn’t make a statement like that without knowing it will be backed up.

*is skert*

Vartan to star in ABC drama pilot

Monday, January 29th, 2007

According to Reuters and various other trade mags, Michael Vartan has been cast in an ABC drama pilot that has yet to be named. In a nutshell, the show is “about four high-powered CEOs or CEOs-to-be who are all friends. Vartan will play the new CEO of a large corporation who is described as the moral center of the show. ”

SpyDaddy gets another TV gig

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Anyone else having serious SpyDaddy withdrawals? Well, have no fear — Papa’s got a brand new bag…er, TV show. Victor Garber has been cast in the ABC pilot Eli Stone, which also will star Jonny Lee Miller (which made the geek in me *squee* because ZOMG — Crash Override/Zero Cool!!). The premise sounds interesting, so hopefully ABC will pick it up.

Garner talks about new movie & end of Alias

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

In this interview with iFMagazine, Jennifer Garner discusses her new movie “Catch & Release” as well as the end of Alias. This is the first part of the interview.

Former “Alias” stars do lunch

Friday, January 19th, 2007

I absolutely HATE paparazzi, but sadly no other legitimate news source had this blip about Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber and Michael Vartan doing lunch earlier this week. The video of them leaving the restaurant just astounds me with how AGRESSIVE those photogs can be. Sadly, the actors seem to be used to it.

Article on April Webster

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

April Webster was recently honored by the Casting Society of America for her achievements in casting for television and movies. She has working on a number of JJ’s projects (Alias, Lost, Six Degrees and M:i:III), and this article from Backstage.com gives insight to her experiences after three decades in the business. She talks about casting for Lost in the piece.

My favorite piece of “Did you know…” trivia related to April is that she played the part (uncredited) of Irina Derevko in the Season 1 finale of Alias, since they did not have the part cast yet :)

New JJ interviews

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

The Mission: Impossible: III DVD was released this past Monday, so JJ has been hitting the interview circuit. And since it is JJ, they aren’t only talking to him about M:i:III. There are also queries about Lost and Star Trek:XI in the following interviews. Enjoy!

TV Guide interview

MTV News interview — MTV still has a crazy, screwed up website. Good luck on actually getting to read the WHOLE interview. Sheesh!

E!’s Kristin Veitch’s interview — I have to say, as annoying as Kristin usually is to me, this is a good interview, because she and JJ have a history, and it shows.

ETA: I meant to include this quote from JJ’s interview with Kristin, just cause it’s funny –

Okay, so you worked with Tom on Mission and also his cousin, William Mapother, on Lost. Is that just a coincidence?

The weirdest coincidence is both were named Ethan.

Hee!
