More Burky - More CLOVERFIELD

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Let me first say that it annoys me to no end when they split up an interview just so they can post snippets of it for a friggin’ week [/rant]

*sigh*

Okay, with that said, JJ’s right hand man (aka Bryan Burk) talks more about CLOVERFIELD in this SciFiWire interview. This bit is mainly about the name of the movie and the added pressure due to the mega-buzz for the movie.

Burky talks CLOVERFIELD

Monday, December 17th, 2007

If there is one person outside of JJ Abrams that knows what the hell all this CLOVERFIELD business is all about - it would be Bryan Burk. And hey, look at that - SciFiWire figured that out, too! Read the interview HERE, taking special note of when JJ came up with the idea.

Here is one snippet from the article:

“It’s an entirely original story and monster,” Burk, a producing partner with Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams, said in an interview in November. “There’s no tie-in to any of our other projects quite yet. We’re obviously fans of the great monster movies. I remember when we were starting Lost, and we had references in it to all our favorite things, be it Jaws or Alien, and this feels like this is the same thing. I don’t think it feels like any other movie you have seen before, but we were definitely inspired by a lot of our favorite films.”

Ah yes, JJ and Co. are quite fond of the hommaging of their favorite movies. Also, for someone who HATES to do interviews, I think Burky does a fine job in this one.

Is it 01-18-08 yet?

This ain’t your daddy’s marketing campaign.

First off — I HAVE NO INSIDER KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THIS MOVIE. I’m just playing along like the rest of you, while being taunted mercilessly by people who DO know.

Here are some sites that we have been led to believe are part of the viral marketing campaign:

Good hunting.

HBO pilot gets a cast and a director — JJ!

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Bad Robot’s drama pilot (the first one under JJ’s new deal with Warner Bros.) has been cast and they say JJ Abrams will be directing it as well. They are referring to the show, which will air on HBO, by the name of the book it is based on — “The Anatomy of Hope” — but I’m not sure if that is the “official” title of the show. I think most people are calling it “that cancer show JJ’s doing on HBO.”

Snippets of a convo with Bryan Burk

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

You think last night’s episode knocked your socks off? I believe the phrase “tip of the iceberg” may apply. I exchanged some e-mails with the fantastic Bryan Burk last night, and I thought I’d share the last bit with y’all:

Burky says…

2 to go — including, in my opinion, our BEST season finale!

hijinx responds…

“BEST season finale”???? You’re trying to kill me, aren’t you? I have pretty high standards when it comes to season finales — and up until this point, NOTHING has come close to beating the Alias Season 2 finale. You think it’s THAT good?

Burky responds…

BETTER than “Alias” Season 2 finale

Batten down the hatches (so to speak), my friends. Brain-proof the walls of your living rooms. Bryan doesn’t make a statement like that without knowing it will be backed up.

“JJ talks ‘Trek’”

Monday, January 15th, 2007

A rare sight indeed. Entertainment Weekly somehow managed to get JJ to actually talk about the 11th Star Trek movie. The biggest news from the article (to me, at least) is that Bob & Alex have finally finished the first draft of the script. Not a lot of info outside of that morsel, except that EW needs a better fact-checker.

It’s Alex Kurtzman, not “Christian” — and thanks to EW, hundreds of articles across the country that referenced this one have ALSO misspelled his name. Oy and vey.

Bad Robot hires 2, promotes 2

Monday, January 15th, 2007

This was a LONG time coming. Thanks to JJ’s new television and film deals with Warner Bros. and Paramount, respectively, the Man needed some help at Bad Robot. BR has hired Kathy Lingg to handle television projects and Sherryl Clark to oversee BR’s film projects.

Along with these hires, two current BR employees received promotions. The lovely Athena Wickham and the sweetheart Ben Sokolowski are now “creative execs” for BR, having formerly been assistants to JJ and Burky, respectively.

E!Online Q’s for Burky and Jorge

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

I don’t know why it took Kristin so long to put up these questions and answers that were asked when Bryan Burk and Jorge Garcia were in New York a week ago. Anyway, here are the questions that were asked — click the link to get the answers ;)

1. Will the Penny and Desmond storyline return?
2. What about those Portugese-speaking guys?
3. Will we see another Hurley flashback?
4. The Others — are they good or evil?
5. What about those numbers?

In the tradition of Lost, most of the answers are vague, but c’mon — it’s Burky and Jorge! So you know they are entertaining either way.

The Associated Press has put up their video recap of “I Do.”

There is some crazy chick with glasses who throws in her buck-fifty regarding the “Fall Finale” of Lost.

Oh wait…that’s me ;)
