EPM Podcast 1×10

Don’t everyone die of shock! Speaker and I could not resist the lure of hearing ourselves pontificate (along with the REST of America) about FRINGE, so we have dusted off our podcasting hats and decided to do podcasts for the FRINGE episodes. We’re a bit rusty and we had some technical difficulties with this one, but we’re hoping to get these out within a week of each episode - ideally.

Yes, we’re complete dorks, but we mainly do these for our fellow BR addicts and some industry peeps who just think we’re SWELL. If you have questions for us or topics you’d like us to cover in future podcasts, feel free to leave those in the comments. Enjoy!

Speaking of technical difficulties… - for now we’re just posting a link to the audio file. It’s been so long since we’ve posted one of these that our podcast and iTunes stuff is not cooperating. We’ll come back and edit this when we get that straightened out.

With the winding down of CLOVERFIELD’s massive viral campaign, I guess those Paramount peeps had a little extra time on their hands. According to this article from EmpireOnline, the STAR TREK viral campaign has begun…

This is kind of cool. Check out this press release from ABC Medianet:

Now fans can discover elements from the hit series “Lost” in Marvel Comics. ABC marketing has strategically placed images and references from the show in various comic books, including Uncanny X-Men, Incredible Hercules, Thunderbolts and Wolverine Origins on sale now. Examples of “Lost” references include a “Lost” poster, the number 6, and the slogan “Find Yourself” in the latest editions of numerous Marvel comics throughout the month. Expect more “Lost” placements to pop up in comic books on stands January 23 and January 30.

Someone will have to send me scans, so I can post them here for everyone to see ;)

CLOVERFIELD: Reeves teases about Easter Eggs

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I was doing a phone interview last night and I was asked what an “Easter Egg” is. I actually had to stop for a moment - the realization that there are still people in the world who are unfamiliar with Easter Eggs was a bit startling for me. But then again, not everyone has been immersed in Bad Robotland for the past five years like I have. Weird.

Oh, I am posting this to share this piece from SciFiWire with Matt Reeves. The question is - am I more amused that Reeves was so coy about the Easter Eggs that CLOVERFIELD fans have been picking apart on the internet…or by the thought that the interviewer actually thought he would get a straight answer? Hmmm…

***SPOILER WARNING!!!*** — There is mention of specific scenes from the movie in this article.

Watch the pretties below (I saw the “6″ again - still don’t know what the hell it means):

Cloverfield’s Slusho: Fave drink of HEROES?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

I giggled myself silly over this article over at /Film.com, because it proves that viral marketing campaigns CAN be fun when the people behind them are …well, Evil Puppet Masters ;)

It seems that the director of last Monday’s HEROES episode “Cautionary Tales” was Greg Yaitanes, and HEROES EP Greg Beeman revealed a series of photos of HEROES actors holding SLUSHO cups over at his blog that he says were set up by Yaitanes. Now, in the realm of “Six Degrees of JJ Abrams,” Yaitanes directed one of my favorite episodes of ALIAS, called “Another Mister Sloane” (Joel Grey FTW!!), plus two important episodes of LOST - “Solitary” and “Special.” So yeah, he’s connected to the BR boys in some fashion - but why these SLUSHO pics with the HEROES cast? The only explanation is a vague one (you’re shocked, I can tell):

Now, the next group of photos falls into the “don’t ask/don’t tell” category. I credit Greg Yaitanes for staging all these pix, under the supervision of Joe Pokaski. Their cultural significance will become clear in the coming months, so… pay attention!

For my fellow ALIAS fans, I would have to say that the following two pics were my faves:

And for those who watched Monday’s episode of HEROES, that cup that Elle (Kristen Bell) was drinking out of in her car while she waited with Mohinder at the beach should look VERY familiar ;)

Now, what the hell does this have to do with Cloverfield? No idea - but it’s fun, isn’t it? :D

AP Video Recap for LOST 3.10

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

The video recap for last night’s Lost episode is up at The Associated Press. It includes an interview with Jorge and discusses the lower ratings for the show.

I just checked last night’s numbers, which were better than the past couple of weeks. Hopefully that trend will continue.

LOST 3.10 Notes

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Okay, here are my notes on last night’s Lost episode “Tricia Tanaka is dead”:

  • Appearance of Vincent should quash all the rumors in the fandom that Walt and Michael had him on the boat with them. There were fans who claimed they saw Vincent on the boat — obviously they were wrong :)
  • The “Tricia Tanaka” in the title was the tv reporter who got killed, along with her cameraman, when a meteor hit the Mr. Cluck’s that Hurley owned.
  • Hurley’s old boss, who then worked for him at the Mr. Cluck’s, is named Randy Nation. Also, Hurley mentions in his ramble about all of his bad luck that his best friend Johnny ran off with his girlfriend Starla — she was the chick from the record store that he was flirting with after he and Johnny quit Mr. Clucks the day Hurley won the lottery.
  • Old light blue VW bus that Hurley finds has a Dharma logo in place of the usual VW logo on the front of it. The skeleton has a Dharma jumpsuit on with his name “Roger” on it, then “Work Man” underneath. Hurley thinks the guy’s name is Roger Workman.
  • Kate picks on Sawyer when he refers to the television show “Little House on the Prairie” as just “Little House” indicating that he used to watch it. His excuse is that he had mono for two months and that was the only thing on. Also, they discussed having a “clean slate” which Kate acts like she doesn’t understand what that means — but her first centric episode was called “Tabula Rasa” which means “clean slate”
  • Hurley tells his mom, after the meteor, that he has to go to Australia to try to break the curse with the numbers. He says that is where they came from, according to Lenny in the institution (the Connect 4 guy).
  • When Jin and Hurley are pulling Roger’s skeleton out of the van, his head comes off. Hurley says “We’ll get that later…” Then later, Sawyer freaks when he sees the skull and Hurley just says “That’s just Roger” I thought that was hilarious :)
  • When Charlie asks Desmond when he was going to die now, Des responds “it doesn’t work that way”
  • Sawyer was in rare form with nicknames in this episode. Just a few I jotted down — Charlie (Oliver Twist, Jiminy Cricket), Hurley (International House of Pancakes), Jin (Jin-bo…which is very Southern; I had a friend named Jimbo so that made me giggle), and even Roger the skeleton (Skeletor — which is the name of the bad guy from the animated tv show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which ran from 1983-1985).
  • Hurley refers to the beer being old — like before Rocky III (which would mean before 1982) or maybe even Rocky II (which came out in 1979).
  • The Jesus centerpiece statue is carved from solid gold. Mrs. Reyes says they got their butlers, Mr. and Mrs. Tron, from Benigans (which is a restaurant chain). When Hurley asks where his dad is going to stay, his mom says “it’s been 17 years” — Hurley doesn’t know what she means, so she covers the ears of the gold Jesus statue and explains to Hurley about her needs. Hurley’s response is to cover his own ears and scream. The next morning, when Hurley’s dad comes to wake him up, Hurley has headphones on because of how loud his parents were.
  • As they are looking through the VW bus, Sawyer asks what was with “all the recycling” and finds a blueprint of some sort that looks like it is for a road. When Kate and Sawyer were on the work crew for the Others, there was mention that they were also working on a road of some kind.
  • Hurley’s motivational speech to Charlie ends with “Let’s look death in the face and say..’whatever, man.’” That has to be one of my favorite quotes now.
  • I think this was the song that was playing when Hurley got the van to start and as they rode around — Shambala
  • When Kate is searching through the jungle, she leans down and touches a net on the jungle floor which is what she was looking for. That was the net that her and Jack got caught in during episode 2.19 “S.O.S.” and that they said was one of Rousseau’s nets (like the one that Rousseau had trapped Benry in). She figured that the nets had to be close to where Danielle lived on the island.

That’s the main stuff that stuck with me. You guys pick up anything else?

Doc Jensen’s latest

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

The latest Lost article by Doc Jensen at Entertainment Weekly is up for your reading pleasure. Doc has some bits about tonight’s episode, as well as spoilers for the next episode — including references to a VERY IMPORTANT EASTER EGG that is supposed to be in the 3/7 ep.

Doc includes a theory by one of his good friends, and it is REALLY good — and y’all know that I rarely recommend a theory to read. This would be one of the one’s that is worth your time.

FINALLY - A LOST theory that doesn’t make me hurl

Friday, February 16th, 2007

I know the subject line may seem a bit overdramatic, but if you have read as many theories about what is “really going on” with the LOST Island as I have, then you would understand.

I first clicked on this Washington Post blog entry, because it had a new revelation about LAST WEEK’s episode “Not in Portland.” It seems there is a message if you play the brainwashing scene in reverse — which is uber cool and MAY BE uber revealing. I’m not going to spoil it here, so that the proper peeps that found it get their credit. Just click on the article and it has an embedded video of the scene in reverse. Awesomeness.

The OTHER reason to read that blog article is for The Theory. It analyzes the hidden message in conjunction with THIS WEEK’s episode — and the fandom talk about what the Island is all about. The funny, and GENIUS, thing about this theory is that it did not originate from a fan or from Lost Labs — but from a true genius and his book, which made an appearance in last week’s episode. It is my favorite kind of launching point for a story, and something that I use in my own writing — WHAT IF what this book says is true…then WHAT IF that’s what this island is about. Again, I’m going to refer y’all to the article, because it deserves the credit, and credits the others who deserve it.

If this theory isn’t correct, I may actually be disappointed.

AP Video Recap up for LOST 3.08
