CLOVERFIELD: Breaks Jan Box Office Record

Monday, January 21st, 2008

In case you hadn’t heard, CLOVERFIELD’s opening weekend is the best January opening EVAH!! There will be no living with those BR folks now…

TEASING! HUGE congrats to JJ, Burky, the Ultimate Drew, Matt Reeves and my buddy Dave Baronoff (who neglected to tell me he had an Associate Producer credit for the movie - w00t!). I’ll be posting my thoughts on the movie soon.

CLOVERFIELD: Premiere Pics

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I know everyone missed the red carpet at the Golden Globes, so to make up for the lack of glitz and glamour, CLOVERFIELD threw a helluva party last night. Go check out these pics from the premiere. Thanks to my buddy q for finding them over at IESB.net.

For any M.U.D. members checking out the pics, THANK GOD Goddard finally cut his hair ;)

For the Trekkies ~ looks like the entire cast of the new movie was there.

To start bidding, go HERE.

Bid high and bid often. Bidding is live now and ends next Monday, January 21st.

CLOVERFIELD: New photos

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Crave Online has posted a bunch of new photos from CLOVERFIELD, including some behind-the-scenes shots. My fave is below:

JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bryan Burk (from Crave Online)

That’s JJ squatting on the left, Matt Reeves standing in the center, and Burky squatting on the right. Some of the photos and info at Crave are spoilery, but no shots of the monster ;)

The viewing of the completed film for cast and crew was yesterday, and I have been told that it was something truly special to see. I can’t wait to see it!!! The taunting has been merciless.

LOST Stuff for Fans4Writers Silent Auction

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

I wanted to give y’all a heads’ up on an auction item that I am donating/arranging for the Fans4Writers Silent Auction. All the proceeds are now going to the Writers Guild Foundation Industry Support Fund - can’t beat that cause, so I am coughing up a piece of swag that was given to me a couple of years ago.

I am donating a COMPLETE set of LOST Season 1 Trading Cards, still in the Inkworks shrink wrap. And if that isn’t enough to make you want to bid, I contacted a few people and managed to arrange for personalized autographs for the winning bidder from JJ Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.

Cool, huh? The next round of the auction starts Friday, January 11th and the bidding will go for 7 days.

Bid high and bid often. And don’t say I never gave you anything ;)

CLOVERFIELD: Across the pond

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Came across this article from the London Times about the build up of hype for CLOVERFIELD. It also gives the release date for the UK, which is February 1, 2008.

Thanks to my buddy q for the heads up :D

Burky talks CLOVERFIELD

Monday, December 17th, 2007

If there is one person outside of JJ Abrams that knows what the hell all this CLOVERFIELD business is all about - it would be Bryan Burk. And hey, look at that - SciFiWire figured that out, too! Read the interview HERE, taking special note of when JJ came up with the idea.

Here is one snippet from the article:

“It’s an entirely original story and monster,” Burk, a producing partner with Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams, said in an interview in November. “There’s no tie-in to any of our other projects quite yet. We’re obviously fans of the great monster movies. I remember when we were starting Lost, and we had references in it to all our favorite things, be it Jaws or Alien, and this feels like this is the same thing. I don’t think it feels like any other movie you have seen before, but we were definitely inspired by a lot of our favorite films.”

Ah yes, JJ and Co. are quite fond of the hommaging of their favorite movies. Also, for someone who HATES to do interviews, I think Burky does a fine job in this one.

Is it 01-18-08 yet?

FRINGE: Pilot Director Named

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

According to SciFiWire, the director for the planned 2-hour pilot of BR’s new television project, Fringe, will be Alex Graves (Journeyman, The Nine, The West Wing). Fringe has a series commitment from Fox and will begin production in February. Graves will serve as an Exec Prod, along with JJ, Burky, Bob Orci & Alex Kurtzman.

Cloverfield’s Slusho: Fave drink of HEROES?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

I giggled myself silly over this article over at /Film.com, because it proves that viral marketing campaigns CAN be fun when the people behind them are …well, Evil Puppet Masters ;)

It seems that the director of last Monday’s HEROES episode “Cautionary Tales” was Greg Yaitanes, and HEROES EP Greg Beeman revealed a series of photos of HEROES actors holding SLUSHO cups over at his blog that he says were set up by Yaitanes. Now, in the realm of “Six Degrees of JJ Abrams,” Yaitanes directed one of my favorite episodes of ALIAS, called “Another Mister Sloane” (Joel Grey FTW!!), plus two important episodes of LOST - “Solitary” and “Special.” So yeah, he’s connected to the BR boys in some fashion - but why these SLUSHO pics with the HEROES cast? The only explanation is a vague one (you’re shocked, I can tell):

Now, the next group of photos falls into the “don’t ask/don’t tell” category. I credit Greg Yaitanes for staging all these pix, under the supervision of Joe Pokaski. Their cultural significance will become clear in the coming months, so… pay attention!

For my fellow ALIAS fans, I would have to say that the following two pics were my faves:

And for those who watched Monday’s episode of HEROES, that cup that Elle (Kristen Bell) was drinking out of in her car while she waited with Mohinder at the beach should look VERY familiar ;)

Now, what the hell does this have to do with Cloverfield? No idea - but it’s fun, isn’t it? :D

GUH!!!! WANTS IT NOW!!!!

Ethan Haas IS wrong…JJ debunks sites

Monday, July 9th, 2007

According to a message from JJ that Harry Knowles at AICN received, those Ethan Haas sites DO NOT have anything to do with the “Cloverfield” movie. The only site that he affirms as being legit is the www.1-18-08.com site mentioned here previously.

Stay tuned…

Cloverfield websites

This ain’t your daddy’s marketing campaign.

First off — I HAVE NO INSIDER KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THIS MOVIE. I’m just playing along like the rest of you, while being taunted mercilessly by people who DO know.

Here are some sites that we have been led to believe are part of the viral marketing campaign:

Good hunting.

HBO pilot gets a cast and a director — JJ!

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Bad Robot’s drama pilot (the first one under JJ’s new deal with Warner Bros.) has been cast and they say JJ Abrams will be directing it as well. They are referring to the show, which will air on HBO, by the name of the book it is based on — “The Anatomy of Hope” — but I’m not sure if that is the “official” title of the show. I think most people are calling it “that cancer show JJ’s doing on HBO.”

Trekking through the stars…

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Oh lookie here! An actual article on “Star Trek” that I feel confident in posting! Such a rarity ;)

The Dynamic Duo…who I guess you guys know better as Bob Orci & Alex Kurtzman gave an exclusive interview to MTV about the Star Trek movie. Of course, they really don’t give any plot details, and answered most of the interviewer’s questions (hilariously) with the answer “Really, who can say?” *snort* Also, nice to know that Bob Orci may actually be geekier than his brother Rick — something I did not think possible.

*runs*
