IGN managed to tackle the blur known as J.J. Abrams this week and get some questions answered about his Star Trek movie (i.e., the movie will still be done by Christmas - it was Paramount that made the decision to delay the release until May) and the continued swirling rumors around a sequel to Cloverfield (i.e., JJ would rather do a new and different movie with Matt Reeves and Drew Goddard rather than a sequel).
You can find the interview HERE.

From Variety:
…
Paramount is pushing back the release of “Star Trek” from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009.
Par also is moving DreamWorks’ Ben Stiller summer comedy “Tropic Thunder” from July 11 to Aug. 15.
Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio’s release calendar, as well as DreamWorks’ release calendar.
Studio insiders said “Star Trek” has the potential to gross more in May than in December.
All the majors are likely to revisit their 2008 and 2009 release skeds in the wake of the writer’s strike now being over. There’s an abundance of films slated for release this year, and particularly comedies. It’s likely that Par won’t be the only studio pushing back films to 2009.
“Star Trek” has no competition in its new slot–at least not so far. One week earlier, 20th Century Fox bows “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
…
That should give the boys some breathing room…

I know everyone missed the red carpet at the Golden Globes, so to make up for the lack of glitz and glamour, CLOVERFIELD threw a helluva party last night. Go check out these pics from the premiere. Thanks to my buddy q for finding them over at IESB.net.
For any M.U.D. members checking out the pics, THANK GOD Goddard finally cut his hair
For the Trekkies ~ looks like the entire cast of the new movie was there.

SciFiWire has a small article with some sound bites about the new Star Trek movie from Karl Urban (LOTR, The Bourne Supremacy). No spoilery stuff - mainly just stating that JJ and the writers have stayed true to TOS and the characters.
Urban has been cast to play Bones in the movie.

SciFiWire interviewed Bob Orci, co-writer of the forthcoming new Star Trek movie, and managed to squeeze a few details out of him. Nothing I would consider very spoilery, but he does give some interesting info about the development of the story they chose to tell.
Oh, and I take his “Next, Next Generation” comment as an Alias shoutout - any Marshall lovers in the EPM audience will get why

One more pic to share from the front lines of the WGA Strike.

That is former Alias scribe and current Journeyman writer, J.R. Orci, on the left, and his big brother, Roberto Orci, on the right. Bob and his writing partner, Alex Kurtzman, have written for Alias, as well as Mission: Impossible III and the currently filming 11th Star Trek movie.
Pic used by permission of J.R. Orci.

Oh lookie here! An actual article on “Star Trek” that I feel confident in posting! Such a rarity
The Dynamic Duo…who I guess you guys know better as Bob Orci & Alex Kurtzman gave an exclusive interview to MTV about the Star Trek movie. Of course, they really don’t give any plot details, and answered most of the interviewer’s questions (hilariously) with the answer “Really, who can say?” *snort* Also, nice to know that Bob Orci may actually be geekier than his brother Rick — something I did not think possible.
*runs*

This interview with JJ Abrams by WIRED is over a month old, and I apologize. I’m weeding through my inbox to try and make sure I post the interviews and articles that shouldn’t be missed. Bear with me
In this interview, JJ talks a tiny bit about Trek, his kids, his influences (Rod Sterling and Aristotle, if you’re curious), LOST, and The Dark Tower.

William Shatner was in the Time magazine proverbial “hot seat” and answered their 10 Questions. Naturally, the forthcoming Star Trek: XI movie came up, as did JJ.
As usual, please take his ST:XI comments with a grain of salt

The one thing you can never deny is that Greg Grunberg and JJ Abrams in one room can make any event better. They are at their best when they are teasing each other, which is exactly what Greg does in this small article from the Rotten Tomatoes website. He also mentions what he would like to play in the 11th Star Trek movie that JJ is working on.

And by “brief” — I mean BRIEF, so don’t get your hopes up. But iFMagazine did get The Nomad to at least reiterate what is confirmed and NOT confirmed. In the unconfirmed category? STILL nothing official about whether or not JJ is going to direct.

A rare sight indeed. Entertainment Weekly somehow managed to get JJ to actually talk about the 11th Star Trek movie. The biggest news from the article (to me, at least) is that Bob & Alex have finally finished the first draft of the script. Not a lot of info outside of that morsel, except that EW needs a better fact-checker.
It’s Alex Kurtzman, not “Christian” — and thanks to EW, hundreds of articles across the country that referenced this one have ALSO misspelled his name. Oy and vey.
