IGN’s LOST Panel breakdown

Friday, January 19th, 2007

I’ve read enough of these summaries of the Lost panel from the TCA press tour to know that THIS ONE by IGN is probably the only one you need to read. These guys must have taped the thing, because the article is FIVE PAGES long (and includes pictures, which is always a good thing).

I haven’t had a chance to read the entire article yet, but read enough to know that it does contain SPOILERS for the rest of Season 3 and various characters’ storylines.

The everchanging cast of LOST

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

William Keck at USA Today posted an article that looks at the everchanging faces in the cast of Lost. There are tidbits from Yunjin and Foxy on there feelings about the addition, yet again, of new cast members this season. Here is an interesting bit about the cast changes possibly being responsible for the dip in audience numbers this season so far:

But is tracking the vast cast contributing to a viewership slide? (Last week’s episode drew 16.9 million viewers, compared with 21.7 million for the same week last year.) Cuse says no and attributes the dip instead to the plot’s complexities.

“Lost has a whole history behind it,” he says, “and some casual viewers think it’s daunting to come watch the show if you haven’t been. We tried to design the show this year to make the basic concept pretty simple: our characters vs. The Others.”

Racial Stereotypes and Hollywood

Friday, September 29th, 2006

ABC News put up this article earlier this month, but I missed it during the impromptu hiatus.  Includes some quotes from DDK, including this one:

Kim told 20/20 he’d played at least fifty roles on television and had never gotten to kiss a woman on-screen until “Lost.” Kim says Hollywood stereotypes Asian American actors, relegating them to certain roles. “We’ve been portrayed as inscrutable villains and asexualized kind of eunuchs,” Kim says. “Even Jackie Chan in his movies rarely gets to kiss his female lead.”

Bravo to Lost for making strides to tear down this stereotypical wall.  The Jin/Sun relationship is probably my favorite storyline on the show, and their ethnicity only adds another dimension to their love story.
