The Futon Critic interviews Ken Olin

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Catch up with former Alias exec prod and director Ken Olin in this interview with The Futon Critic’s Brian Ford Sullivan. Not quite as good as the Greg Grunberg interview, but it’s still worth the read.

LOST stars interact with fans at HIFF

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Lost actors Jorge Garcia, Michael Emerson, and Henry Ian Cusick, along with producer Jean Higgins participated in a Q&A session with fans at the Hawaiian International Film Festival this past weekend. Interesting quote from Jean:

Higgins said that it’s important that the island remain a mystery — especially to those living on it — because the show revolves around survival, and not understanding where you are is a key component to that. “We’ve always been careful not to reveal too much of it,” she said.

IGN reviews M:i:III DVD

You can check out IGN’s review of the Mission: Impossible III DVD that is due to be released next week here. As with everything that IGN does, it is lengthy and exhaustive — which makes it perfect for DVD geeks ;)

Juliet — Best New Scary Chick

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

The Chicago Trib’s MetroMix names Juliet is Best New Female Villain on TV. The snippet about her:

BEST FEMALE VILLAIN: Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell, right, with Matthew Fox) on “Lost” (ABC). Up until this season, I thought Benjamin Linus, the creepy dude formerly known as “Henry Gale,” was the most chilling villain on “Lost.” Juliet — one of the leaders of the Others and one of the captors of Jack, Kate and Sawyer — may be even scarier; she seems intelligent and relatively reasonable — right up until the point at which she threatens to shoot Kate in cold blood. Her icy reserve is what makes Juliet so effective as a character; does it mask sorrow or a heart of stone? Not knowing is what gives her scenes such suspense.

“Further Intructions” review by EW

Friday, October 20th, 2006

It’s not by my fave, Doc Jensen, but this review for Lost Episode 3.03 is till quippy, snarky and pretty thorough. And it looks like Justin Timberlake’s influence can be felt on the island now:

New cast members Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro (as Nikki and Paulo) abruptly showed up, evidently to bring sexy back.

Never doubt the power of JT.

Sky TV gets LOST S3 & S4 for UK

Friday, October 20th, 2006

The United Kingdom’s Channel 4 had rights to seasons 1 and 2 of Lost, but the Brits will have to flip over to Sky One to watch the next two seasons (at least).

Recap of “Further Instructions”

Friday, October 20th, 2006

I found a fairly cohesive recap of Lost Episode 3.03 “Further Instructions” that gives a neutral breakdown of what happened in the episode.

“Masquerade” sheds some light

Friday, October 20th, 2006

I don’t usually have time to put effort into a full-blooded review of the BR episodes that air each week, but I had mentioned in the first EPM Podcast that I had heard that things really start to come together in Six Degrees around the 5th episode. Well, the 5th episode “Masquerade” aired last night and I have to say that that analysis was spot on. It was probably the best episode since the Pilot.

***WARNING!! Spoilers for last night’s episode!!***

No, we did not learn what was in Mae’s box, but we did learn the “mystery” around who she is and why she is on the run. And I at least have a guess as to what The Box contains now (and it is not the Needles of Fire…at least, I HOPE not). The Carlos/Mae interactions were wonderfully done, and Jay and Erika played the scene at his office beautifully. I am really starting to get more comfortable with the Whitney and Laura friendship, which had started a little too “out of the blue” for me. The party scenes with them two were pretty funny. I loved to hear Damian talk about his girl to Whitney in the limo. I’m glad that Whitney is not getting over her ex-fiance so easily, even if he was a cad. I like what Laura’s character (and her daughter) bring to Mae’s character and to Whitney’s character, but I think we need to get more into what is happening to her alone. From the previews, it looks like we’ll see some of that in the next episode, as well as more about Damian, who was on the backburner most of this episode.

The only part that remains a bit clunky for me is Steven’s relationship with the young thang. The actress is doing a good job, but she and Campbell just don’t have any identifiable chemistry. I love Steven’s efforts to be a better dad to his son, and the Ecstasy/aspirin mix up was both hilarious and painful to watch a recovering drug addict go through. I was overjoyed when he broke it off with the girl, but then they made up in the end and I was bummed. I’m pretty sure that she is a plot device, like Whitney’s fiance was, but I’m just ready for her usefulness to be done with, thankyouverymuch. She reminds me a lot of Jenny from Alias.

So, like I said, a really solid episode with lots of potential. And I am eager for the next episode (which I haven’t really felt actual anticipation for another episode since the Pilot) — which makes next weeks repeat of Grey’s that much more aggravating. We will get a new episode, but not until two weeks (on Nov. 2nd).

What did y’all think? Talk here or in the EPM forums. :D

AP does LOST episode round-ups

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

The Associated Press has started doing episode round-ups for each new Lost episode in the form of 2-3 minute video clips that are then made available on hundreds of local news’ websites across the country. Here is a link for the round-up for “Further Instructions.”

Pretty durn cool, huh?

TOQ comments about this season’s Locke

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

I have a madcrazykindoflove for both Jorge Garcia and Terry O’Quinn for being HUGE MEGA STARS, but still popping up on The Fuse pretty regularly to chat with the fans and answer questions.

Last week, in response to a “character development” development question, Terry had this to say about Locke this season:

John the Questor is back…….the watcher…….the walker………….the hunter……..the seeker………….the loser…………….yeah, all back.

(teh evil?)

Terry

Of course, the best part of the quote is “teh evil?” because that is a LONG running, totally harmless, “argument” with the regulars on the Fuse, some of whom declare that “Locke is teh evil” only to get a reply that “Locke is NOT teh evil.” It is all in fun, and Terry obviously GETS that…which only makes me love him more.

**Props to Lostkateer olafandyjon for pointing me to that post.**

Interview with Malcolm

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

We may not know the fate of Michael and Walt on Lost yet, but it appears from this article that Malcolm David Kelley has the talent and the professionalism to stick around in Hollywood.

The everchanging cast of LOST

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

William Keck at USA Today posted an article that looks at the everchanging faces in the cast of Lost. There are tidbits from Yunjin and Foxy on there feelings about the addition, yet again, of new cast members this season. Here is an interesting bit about the cast changes possibly being responsible for the dip in audience numbers this season so far:

But is tracking the vast cast contributing to a viewership slide? (Last week’s episode drew 16.9 million viewers, compared with 21.7 million for the same week last year.) Cuse says no and attributes the dip instead to the plot’s complexities.

“Lost has a whole history behind it,” he says, “and some casual viewers think it’s daunting to come watch the show if you haven’t been. We tried to design the show this year to make the basic concept pretty simple: our characters vs. The Others.”

Fandoms COLLIDE

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

***SPOILER WARNING!!*** If you are a Battlestar Galactica fan who prefers to remain 100% spoiler-free (including casting spoilers) then STOP READING!!

There. I hope that was enough warning, because I don’t feel like cutting this one. Either in one of David Eick’s BSG Video Blogs or on one of the podcasts that Ron Moore does, they mentioned that they were in negotiations with a former Alias actor to come onto the show. Well, while watching the October 11th video blog (that I had somehow missed last week), the actor was revealed: Carl Lumbly!!

I cannot tell you how jazzed I am that two of my BIGGEST fandoms have collided. I ADORE Carl and was just wondering last week if he had anything new coming up. It is hard to tell from the video blog, but it seems like his BSG character, “Bulldog” (a pilot), may be a recurring character. Regardless, I can’t wait to see him on my TV again :D

“Theories of Evolution”

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

You know, if someone would actually pay me to write about Lost, then I would have the time to write some truly introspective and OMGWOW theories about the show. Instead, I have to count on Jeff Jensen at Entertainment Weekly to do it for me.

Lots of solid theories, including what he thinks the probability that he is right or wrong. Also, FABULOUS breakdown of how Lost and Heroes could be intertwined somehow (including noncommittal, Damonesque-type responses from Tim Kring). But the best part is that he is one of the rare theorists that can recognize the ridiculousness of his own theories and embraces that.

Can I ’ship a reporter? ;)
